Emberly graduated from Iowa State
University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with Honors and an emphasis
in Criminology in 2011 and was inducted into the Ames Iowa Chapter of Psi Chi
International Honor Society in Psychology. She then moved to Phoenix, Arizona
and earned her Master of Science in Licensed Professional Counseling from Grand
Canyon University in 2015, completing an practicum at Aurora Behavioral Health Hospital.
Emberly was initially licensed as an Associate Counselor (LAC) in Arizona in
2016, while completing credits toward earning a Doctorate in Clinical
Neuropsychology from Argosy University in Phoenix, Arizona. While in Arizona
she worked as a therapist at Copper Springs Behavioral Health Hospital, Oasis
Behavioral Health Hospital and Maricopa County Jail at the Durango and Lower
Buckeye jails. Additionally, Emberly facilitated a Standard Outpatient group through
Terros and Family Counseling Services with women who were working toward
reunification with their children by the Department of Human Services (DHS). The
group provided weekly psychoeducation in substance abuse and a process group to
assist with working through some of the traumas of having their children
removed as well as the traumas leading up to removal. During this time, Emberly
also provided community-based therapy for children ages 4-18 in their natural home,
school and daycare environments using Cognitive Behavioral and Play Therapies.
In 2018, Emberly returned to the Des
Moines, Iowa area as a temporary Licensed Mental Health Counselor and in 2019 completed
training for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and
experienced great success with clients who had developed mental health illness,
and substance addictions, due to traumatic events. In 2020 Emberly earned her
independent licensure to practice counseling in Iowa and became Board Certified
and was awarded the title of National Certified Counselor (NCC) with the
National Board of Certified Counselors.
In 2021 Emberly opened The Beverly Center, named
after Beverly Lashley, a suicide victim in 2006 and Emberly’s mother. The
experience which ultimately led Emberly to pursue a career in Psychology and
Mental Health Counseling.
She has worked extensively with
adults and adolescents, providing assessment for readiness of trauma therapy,
as well as preparation through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Desensitization
of Urges and Triggers (DeTurs) for Substance Abuse relapse prevention. Emberly enjoys working with her clients and often shares her love of Psychology
through Psychoanalysis with them and intends to continue to pursue completion
of her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.
